Weekend Beer Events

All across our great state, from coast to coast and everywhere in the middle, beer events are happening daily.  Even when you're pretty closely connected to the local beer scene like Seth and myself,  it can be pretty difficult to stay abreast of all the fun activities going on across the state, so I've decided to do a weekly post highlighting the upcoming beer-related events throughout Michigan.  So, dust off your drinking hat, hoist up your party pants, and get yourself some great Michigan craft beer with a few friends (or a whole bunch of strangers) -- and please feel free to comment on any other events we may not have heard about!

Thursday, June 9:


ABC Brew Pub – Beer Tasting: Fruit Beers and Ciders
Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Cost: $25

Details: "At this fun, summertime tasting we’ll be serving up everything from Blueberry Stouts to Cherry Alts, from sweet to sour, and from easy-drinking to big and bold. We’ll select 25-30 of our favorite fruit beer and ciders, pair them with an appetizer buffet, provide style and tasting notes, and top off the night with a door prize drawing. Tastings run 7-9 PM. Friday, June 10: 

Short's beer tasting at Whole Foods Ann Arbor (Cranbrook)
Time: 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Cost: Varies -- pints should be about $3
Venue: Whole Foods -- Cranbrook

Details: Several beers will be on tap and available for tasting, including a Belgian IPA, Chocolate Wheat, Nicie Spicie, and possibly a few more.

Saturday, June 11: 

Mad Hatter Birthday Bash at New Holland Brewing Co. 
Time: 5:00 pm to 1:00 am
Cost: No cover to get in, various events $5-$10pp, drink specials
Venue: New Holland Brewing Restaurant and Pub

Details: "Help us celebrate Mad Hatter’s birthday- Alice in Wonderland style! The fun starts at 5pm with a Beer and Cheese Smackdown followed by a Mixology Class. The Bike n’ Bar will be available for rides, we will have a Photobooth in the house, complimentary Tea Party Snacks and Raffle Prizes throughout the evening. Music provided by DJ Snax from 9pm-1am and we will feature a Mad Hatter birthday cake you will have to see to believe!!! The cake will be on display through the evening with a carving and toast at 10:06pm. There is no cover for this event, no minors allowed after 11pm.
The Beer and Cheese Smackdown will feature our reining champion, brewer Little John vs. Mike Baptista – Creamery Manager – Zingerman’s Creamery. Six different cheeses, 12 different beers- who will this year’s winner be? You be the judge! The Smackdown is from 5-6pm and is $10 per person. Seats are limited- stop by the pub to purchase your ticket today!

The Mixology Class is from 6:30-7:30 and is $5 per person. Join Spirits Ambassador Rich Blair for a Hatter Days Cocktail Seminar. This year we will feature classic summer cocktails, each recipe using fresh local ingredients. Stay cool all summer with refreshing local cocktails!

We are excited to release four new Hatters to the market this year- Black Hatter, Oak Aged Hatter, Farmhouse Hatter, and Rye Hatter. In addition to on tap at the pub, all four Hatters will also be available in 22 oz. bottles. They are limited, single-batch brews and won’t be around for long! Artist, Kyle Bice, will be in attendance signing copies of our new Hatter labels that he designed!"

Greenbush Brewing Company's Opening Day!

Details: GBC will officially open it's doors and will have beer available to-go by the growler. They have a limited supply of empty growlers, but will fill any one you bring from home for $2 less than the normal price.
